Who we are
We're oriri BV, a Belgian company passionate about food and gastronomy. Our mission is to connect gastronomic businesses, share their stories and values, and help food lovers discover amazing culinary experiences across Europe.
You can find us at oriri.food (our showcase site) and on our digital platform app.oriri.food, where businesses create their gastronomic profiles. We present everything with complete independence and genuine passion for food culture.
oriri BV acts as the data controller for personal data collected through our services. We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and are committed to ensuring the protection of your personal data.
What we collect (and why)
When you visit our website or platform:
We collect basic analytics data to understand how people use our sites. This includes things like which pages you visit, what device you're using, and how you found us. We use Piwik Pro for analytics because they're EU-based and share our privacy-first values. We also use Microsoft Clarity for heatmaps to see how you interact with our pages.
You can opt out anytime using our cookie manager if you prefer to browse anonymously.
When businesses register on our platform:
Basic stuff: Business name, contact person, email, phone number, and address
The good stuff: Your gastronomic story, values, and what makes you special
Visual content: Photos and descriptions you upload to showcase your business
Instagram connection: If you connect your Instagram, we download your last 12 public photos (refreshed weekly) and store them securely on AWS S3
When we help complete your profile:
With your permission, we can:
- Use our "Business API Bot" to scan your website and pull relevant information
- Suggest content using AI (OpenAI and Anthropic) - but you always review and approve everything
- Automatically refresh your Instagram photos weekly (keeping only the 12 most recent)
Legal basis for processing
We process your personal data on the following legal bases:
Consent: When you subscribe to our newsletter, you provide consent for us to process your personal data for that specific purpose.
Legitimate Interests: We may process your data based on our legitimate interests, such as improving our website and services, provided these interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms.
Legal Obligation: We may process your data to comply with legal obligations to which we are subject.
What we do with your data
We use your information to:
- Run our platform and showcase amazing gastronomic businesses
- Help businesses create compelling profiles
- Connect food lovers with great culinary experiences
- Send you updates about our services (if you've asked for them)
- Improve our platform based on how people actually use it
- Keep everything secure and running smoothly
We never sell your data. Ever. That's not who we are.
Where we store your data
Everything stays in Europe. Always.
Showcase Website: Webflow - US company, but data processed in EU-compliant manner
Platform Hosting & Images: Amazon Web Services (AWS) - EU data centers
Newsletter: Brevo - French company, EU servers
CRM & Support: Odoo - Belgian company, EU servers
Analytics: Piwik Pro - EU-based, privacy-first
AI Processing: OpenAI and Anthropic via API (no long-term storage) - this data may leave the EU beyond our control during transit to the API service
We believe your data belongs close to home, protected by strong European privacy standards.
International data transfers
We primarily operate in the EU and process data within the European Economic Area (EEA). However, some of our service providers may be based outside the EEA. Whenever we transfer your personal data outside the EEA, we ensure a similar degree of protection by implementing appropriate safeguards, such as using standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
How long we keep your data
We follow EU/GDPR best practices and only keep data as long as necessary:
- Your business profile: As long as your account is active, plus 3 years (for legal stuff)
- Instagram photos: Only your 12 most recent - older ones are automatically deleted
- Website analytics: Maximum 24 months
- Marketing emails: Until you unsubscribe or 3 years of no interaction
- Support conversations: 3 years from our last chat
Your rights
You have complete control over your data. Under GDPR, you can:
Right to Access: You have the right to request copies of your personal data.
Right to Rectification: You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate or complete information you believe is incomplete.
Right to Erasure: You have the right to request that we erase your personal data, under certain conditions.
Right to Restrict Processing: You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
Right to Object to Processing: You have the right to object to our processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
Right to Data Portability: You have the right to request that we transfer the data we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions.
Just email us at gdpr@oriri.food and we'll take care of whatever you need. We'll respond within one month - usually much faster because we're real people who actually read and respond to emails.
Business profiles are public
When businesses create profiles on our platform, that information becomes publicly visible. This includes:
- Your business details and contact info
- Your gastronomic story and values
- Connections with other businesses and suppliers
- Instagram photos and handle
This is the whole point of our platform - helping people discover you! But you always control what goes public.
The AI stuff
We use AI (OpenAI and Anthropic) to help businesses write better content and complete their profiles. Here's how it works:
- AI suggests content based on your website
- You review and edit everything before it goes live
- The AI services don't store your data long-term
- You're always in control and responsible for what's published
Security
We take security seriously (as seriously as we take good food):
- Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest when needed
- We use secure authentication and access controls
- We regularly test our security
- Our team is trained in data protection
But let's be honest: no internet service is 100% secure. We do our best to protect your data, but we operate on a "best effort" basis without guarantees of perfect security or 100% uptime.
Cookies and tracking
We use cookies for:
Essential stuff: Making the platform work Analytics: Understanding how you use our site (Piwik, Microsoft Clarity) Marketing: Retargeting ads on Instagram (Meta Pixel)
You can control all of this through our cookie consent tool powered by Piwik. Your browser settings work too.
Children's privacy
Our platform is not intended for children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at gdpr@oriri.food.
The small print
- We're completely independent and not affiliated with any restaurant or food brand we feature
- All business information is provided by the businesses themselves - we don't verify its accuracy
- Business owners are responsible for having the rights to all content they upload
- We're GDPR compliant because we're European and genuinely care about privacy
- We might update this policy as we grow, but we'll always let you know
Something go wrong?
If you're not happy with how we handle your data, you can complain to:
Belgian Data Protection Authority Drukpersstraat 35, 1000 Brussels contact@apd-gba.be
But honestly, just email us first at gdpr@oriri.food - we're reasonable people and we'll sort it out.
